Hello,
I downloaded the program, might be several years old (?) but now I have to ask: what do I do next ?

e.g., how would I select the radio to be used from the program ?
What else do I have to configure to actually get it working and de-coding ?

Thanks,
Bob

Hello Bob,

It sounds like you're trying to get started with PC-HFDL. To select the radio and configure the program, follow these general steps (note that specifics might vary depending on the version of the software):

  1. Radio Selection:

    • Open PC-HFDL and look for a menu or settings button, typically labeled "Options," "Settings," or "Preferences." This might be found in the toolbar or under a menu such as "File" or "Tools."
    • In the settings window, you should find an option to specify the radio. It may be referred to as "Radio," "Receiver," or "Device."
    • From the dropdown menu or list, select your connected radio device. This should be listed if your device is correctly installed and recognized by your computer.
  2. Configure Audio Input:

    • Make sure your radio is properly connected to your computer, typically via a sound card or USB connection.
    • Check your computer's sound settings to ensure that the radio's output is set as the input source. In Windows, right-click on the speaker icon in your system tray, select "Sound settings," and then "Input" to select the radio device.
  3. Check Frequency and Mode:

    • Ensure your radio is tuned to an appropriate frequency that the program can decode. PC-HFDL typically decodes ACARS messages, so frequencies around 8942 kHz might be relevant, but verify this with your radio and the software documentation.
    • Ensure that you are using the correct mode. PC-HFDL is usually set to AM mode, but verify the recommended settings for your setup.
  4. Decoding Data:

    • Once everything is configured, data should start appearing in the program's interface when it receives HFDL signals.
    • If you do not see any data, check all connections and settings, and ensure that your antenna setup is correct.

If you experience any issues, refer to the program's documentation or online forums where other users might share solutions for common problems. I hope this helps you get started with PC-HFDL!
